Scheuerfeld is a municipality in the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Betzdorf-Gebhardshain community .

history

In a document from 914, in which the border of the old parish district Haiger was recorded, Scheuerfeld first appeared as Sciurefeld (pronounced: Schürefeld). The current place name developed from the later versions Schürefeld , Schurfeld and Schurdfeld .

In 1481 Wolf and Wilhelm von Seelbach accepted the Scheuerfeld farms and estates as a fief from the Count of Sayn . In 1745 the three Urhöfe (Oberscheuerfelder Hof, Beerhof and Niederscheuerfelder Hof) and the Hintenhof are mentioned as tax-free Junker estates. In 1781, a lease agreement was signed between the Saynian administration and the then mayor for the benefit of the Scheuerfeld citizens of the Muhlau estate. Later it was bought by the tenants.

The commissioning of the Siegtaleisenbahn in 1861 and the associated economic development caused the population of Scheuerfeld to rise sharply.

Justification of the coat of arms: The wavy ribbon represents the victory . The silver diagonal right-hand bar with three black diamonds on top of each other indicates the earlier possessions of the Lords of Seelbach. Three golden ears of wheat in the blue field symbolize the three original farms (Oberscheuerfelder Hof, Beerhof, and Niederscheuerfelder Hof) and the farming community. The golden hoe in the red field indicates the long period of ore mining on site and the mention of the Sciurefeld settlement in the Middle Ages.
