The Verbandsgemeinde Betzdorf-Gebhardshain is an administrative unit in the legal form of a regional authority in the district of Altenkirchen in Rhineland-Palatinate . It was created on January 1, 2017 from the voluntary amalgamation of the Betzdorf and Gebhardshain municipalities . The town of Betzdorf and 16 independent local communities belong to it, and the administrative headquarters are in Betzdorf.

On September 28, 2010 the state government passed the “First Law on Local and Administrative Reform” with the aim of improving the efficiency, competitiveness and administrative power of local structures. For municipalities it was determined that they should include at least 12,000 inhabitants (main residence on June 30, 2009). With 11,221 inhabitants, fell below Gebhardshain the envisaged minimum number of inhabitants, the municipality Betzdorf had on date 15,675 inhabitants.

On February 24, 2016, the “State Law on the Merger of the Associated Communities Betzdorf and Gebhardshain” was passed in the state parliament. The law stipulates that on January 1, 2017, a new association will be formed from the previous association communities Betzdorf and Gebhardshain, which will be called "Betzdorf-Gebhardshain". The seat of their administration is the city of Betzdorf .

On the occasion of the formation of the new association community, the state granted an allocation of 2,000,000 euros.
