The Verbandsgemeinde Wissen is an administrative unit in the legal form of a regional authority in the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald) in Rhineland-Palatinate . The community of the association includes the city of Wissen and five independent local communities , the administrative seat is in the eponymous city of Wissen.

The association is located in a predominantly wooded hilly landscape between the Westerwald and the Siegerland . In a south-westerly direction the Sieg flows through the municipality.

Association municipal council
The Verbandsgemeinderat Wissen consists of 32 voluntary council members who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the full-time mayor as chairman. In the 2014–2019 electoral period, the municipal council only had 28 council members.

mayor
Michael Wagener (CDU) became mayor of the association of Wissen on July 1, 1996. In the direct election on October 23, 2011, he was elected to this office for a further eight years with a share of the vote of 80.94%.
Wagener did not run again in the new election scheduled for 2019. For the electoral period beginning on July 1, 2020, Berno Neuhoff (CDU) was elected as his successor in the direct election on November 10, 2019, with a share of 82.2% of the votes.
