history

The previous Verbandsgemeinde Daaden was created in 1968 as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate functional and territorial reform from the Daaden office . The municipality of Herdorf belonged to this until March 31, 1955. On April 1, 1955, this and the communities of Dermbach (previously the Churches Office ) and Sassenroth (previously the Betzdorf Office ) were formed into the new, non-official municipality of Herdorf, which was elevated to the status of town on January 24, 1981.

On September 28, 2010 the state government passed the “First Law on Local and Administrative Reform” with the aim of improving the efficiency, competitiveness and administrative power of local structures. For municipalities it was stipulated that these should include at least 12,000 inhabitants (main residence on June 30, 2009), for municipalities not belonging to the association, the number of inhabitants was set at 10,000. Both municipalities did not meet these requirements, the community of Daaden had 11,680 inhabitants on the reporting date, the city of Herdorf 6,974.

In the "State law on the integration of the non-union city of Herdorf into the Verbandsgemeinde Daaden" of December 20, 2013, the incorporation of the city of Herdorf into the Verbandsgemeinde Daaden was prescribed on July 1, 2014 and the name was temporarily changed to "Verbandsgemeinde Herdorf-Daaden" and the Established seat of the association in Daaden.

Both the city of Herdorf and the Verbandsgemeinde Daaden filed a legal review application (municipal constitutional complaints ) against the integration with the Constitutional Court of Rhineland-Palatinate . On March 30, 2016, the Constitutional Court ruled that the incorporation was constitutional. The legal process was thus exhausted.

According to Article 1 of the State Law on Measures in Connection with Territorial Changes by Associated Municipalities from January 1, 2017, “Verbandsgemeinde Daaden-Herdorf” was determined as the final name. This takes into account the vote of the local parishes, the majority of which have voted for the prefix “Daaden” in the name. This is justified by the fact that the city of Herdorf was incorporated into the Verbandsgemeinde Daaden and not the other way around, that the name of the local community, which is the seat of the Verbandsgemeinde, should be placed in front, that Daaden comes before Herdorf in the alphabet and with historical considerations. Although Herdorf is the largest local community in terms of population after integration, the previous local communities of the Daaden community are larger than Herdorf alone, both in terms of population and area.
