About this picture

Wallmenroth is a municipality in the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Betzdorf-Gebhardshain community and is located in the valley of the Sieg , on the federal highway 62 3 km west of the city of Betzdorf .

history

Wallmenroth appeared for the first time under the name Nodenbrath in a document from 913, in which the border of the old parish of Haiger was recorded . The place got its current name around 1200, probably by Aleidis von Freusburg. This came from Molsberg Castle near Wallmerod in the Westerwald and gave the settlement belonging to Freusburg Castle the name Wallmenroth and the mountain the name Molzberg . The name Nodenbrath (Nodenberg) remained common until the 17th century.

The Wallmenroth district was based on five original settlements. In addition to the courtyards Nodenberg-Wallmenroth, Muhlau and Dasberg, the municipal area included the stately Hohenbetzdorf court, first mentioned in 1249, and the Bannhof (train station, later train station).

After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the county of Sayn-Altenkirchen fell to Prussia and the emerging Altenkirchen district. The community of Wallmenroth then belonged to the mayor's office of Kirchen. In 1886 Wallmenroth was assigned to the mayor's office in Betzdorf and in 1907 the railway colony, in which around half of Wallmenroth's residents lived, was incorporated into Betzdorf. The city of Betzdorf still pays annual compensation for this today.

coat of arms

Wallmenroth coat of arms
Blazon : "Under a silver shield head, bordered with black above and below, covered with three black boar heads, bar by beam, a green, stylized oak with five roots in gold."
Justification of the coat of arms: The three boar heads come from the coat of arms of the Freusburg rule. After 913 Wallmenroth belonged to the parish of Kirch-Freusburg. The oak in Nodenbrath shows the important border and court oak with its five roots, representing the first five settlements and the emergence and development of the community. The golden background points to the grain fields as the basis of life.

Parish partnership

A partnership with the French municipality of Fleury-sur-Loire in the Burgundy region has existed since 2007 . This partnership has its roots in the town twinning between Betzdorf and Decize, which has existed since 1965 .
