Kraam , official spelling until December 6, 1935: Craam, is a municipality in the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald) in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld .

geography

Kraam extends in the valley of the Kraamer Bach along the district road 19. It is located west of Altenkirchen , about one kilometer northeast of Mehren , and consists of the two districts of Heuberg and Kraam . Heuberg to the east is on Landesstrasse 276.

history

Kraam's first known written mention was in the reverse of a deed from 1411, in which the Cologne subjects are listed in the County of Sayn , which the Archbishop of Cologne had pledged to Count Gerhard von Sayn for 700 Rhenish guilders .

Municipal council

The council in Kraam consists of six council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

mayor

Thomas Bay became the local mayor of Kraam in the summer of 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with a share of the vote of 85.19%. Bay is the successor to Günter Kohl, who held the office for ten years.

Attractions

In the middle of Kraam, right on the village street, there is an oak that is around 400 years old. To the west of the village is the Kraamer Mühle , which ceased operations around 50 years ago.
