In 1558 the name of the place appeared as Werickhuisen . In 1578 there were 21 fireplaces in Werkhausen, in 1620 there were 14, in 1780 23 houses. The current district of Leingen was mentioned in 1600 as Lempfgen in connection with the number of five houses. In 1603 the Werkhäuser Mühle was loaned to Wilhelm Kremer from Weyerbusch by the Counts of Sayn .
Werkhausen belonged to the county of Sayn and after its division in the 17th century to the county of Sayn-Altenkirchen .
The surveying of the Weyerbuscher and Werkhäuser Erbenwald lasted from October 30th, 1830 to April 7th, 1831. In the meantime, a log from February 12th, 1831 documented the distribution of the forest parcels to the new owners. In 1837 there were 34 residential buildings in Werkhausen, plus a schoolhouse that the children of Hasselbach also had to use, as well as a mill and various agricultural buildings.
