Forstmehren is a municipality in the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld .
Geographical location
Forstmehren is located on the Mehrbach , about two kilometers southwest of Weyerbusch , and about one kilometer away from federal road 8 in the north and state road 267 in the east. Other neighboring communities are Hasselbach in the north, Kraam in the south, Rettersen in the west and Ersfeld in the southwest.
history
Forstmehren was first mentioned in 1283 as Worstmere . According to documents from the Marienstatt Abbey , a mill already existed on site at that time. In 1740 a new mill was mentioned in a document. In 1788 there was a winter school in the village, which was attended by 17 children. The first mayor, Friedrich Eichelhard, together with the incumbent of the Weyerbusch mayor , Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen , signed the minutes of the meeting that have been preserved to this day. Towards the end of the Second World War , Forstmehren was partially destroyed. Several V1 positions were under construction in a forest in the direction of Weyerbusch .

Municipal council
The municipal council in Forstmehren consists of six council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Steffen Weser became local mayor of Forstmehren on July 26, 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with 66.33% of the vote. Weser is the successor to Harald Gollek (Mayor 2014–2019) and Erhard Burmester (2004–2014).
Sights and culture
The Forstmehrener Mühle, out of operation since 1952, is a former ban mill and is now privately owned.
Public cultural events such as readings and concerts take place regularly in a dome made of clay by the musician Thomas Kagermann , who lives in Forstmehren .

Economy and Infrastructure
The place has three agricultural businesses, several commercial enterprises and an inn. An investor's plan to build a larger hotel complex failed after a controversial discussion among the population in December 2011 due to the vote of the Forstmehrener municipal council, which rejected a change to the land use plan.
