Walterschen is a municipality in the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld .
Geographical location
Walterschen is about 3 km south of Weyerbusch and 5 km west of Altenkirchen near the country road 267. The place is surrounded by agricultural land, although there is no longer a corresponding farm on site.
history
Walterschen belonged to the parish Flammersfeld in the county of Sayn and was first mentioned in the documents of the parish court in 1569. After the division of the County of Sayn, Walterschen belonged to the County of Sayn-Hachenburg until 1799 . Until 1806 the place was under the rule of Nassau-Weilburg and until 1815 it belonged to the Duchy of Nassau . In 1815 the region was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia , and administratively, Walterschen belonged to the Flammersfeld mayor in the newly formed Altenkirchen district in 1816 . Since 1946 the place has belonged to the then newly created state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

The local council in Walterschen consists of six council members who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Frank-Walter Koch has been the local mayor of Walterschen since the beginning of 2015. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with a share of the vote of 85.54%. Frank-Walter Koch's predecessor was Karl Walter Bender, who resigned from his mandate in autumn 2014 for personal reasons.
