history

The first written mention of Kettenhausen comes from the documents of the Marienstatt monastery . On January 25, 1359, the Vogtschöffen zu Altenkirchen ( Aldenkirgen ) Rorich von Kettenhausen ( Kedinhausen ) and Rokil von Ölsen ( Udilshausen ) with the Vogtschultheiß Lutz von Mehren a contract about an inheritance in Müschenbach .

At that time there was a Vogtgericht in Altenkirchen, which was responsible for civil law matters such as inheritance and complaints. It was the city court of Altenkirchen, which had city rights since 1314 . It was responsible in this case because the original owners of the inheritance, Scholer and his brother Tepillere, lived in Altenkirchen. The chairman was the Vogtschultheiß, who spoke the judgments with the Vogtschöffen or, as in this case, attested the correctness of a document. The aforementioned document was sealed with the city seal of Altenkirchen. Rorich von Kettenhausen already had a more senior position. The lay judges were supposed to be elected, but were often appointed. The office often remained in the family for generations.

In the middle of the 18th century, the rights to the local forests fell from the then owner, Count von Sayn-Altenkirchen , to a local forest interest group .

Until 1881 lead and iron ore were mined in the Hope Valley mine .
