Steineroth is a municipality in the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald) in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Betzdorf-Gebhardshain community . Colloquially the place is called "Steinert".

Geographical location

The local community is located on the northern foothills of the Westerwald to the Siegerland south via Betzdorf ; other neighboring communities are Elben in the southwest, Molzhain in the south and Kausen in the southwest. The Alte Bornskopf (455 m) rises south-east of the village .

history

Steineroth was first mentioned in a document in 1438. Steineroth belonged to the parish Gebhardshain in the county of Sayn .

For a long time the number of inhabitants remained about the same, in 1597 twelve heads of families were counted, in 1667 the place had eleven "fireplaces" (houses), in 1693 there were nine taxpayers and in 1742 there were fourteen "smokes" (houses). So there were between 50 and 70 inhabitants at that time.

Towards the end of the Second World War in March 1945 there was fighting between German and American soldiers near Steineroth and Dauersberg, with nine members of the Wehrmacht and an unknown number of US soldiers losing their lives.
