Michael Wäschenbach (born July 15, 1954 in Kirchen (Sieg) ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He has been a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament since January 1, 2012 .

Life and work

In 1972, Wäschenbach graduated from the Collegium Josephinum , a Redemptorist monastery school in Bonn . After training as a federal railway assistant, he was drafted into military service with the military police in Düsseldorf and Marburg . From 1976 to 1978 he held various positions in sales and operations (including dispatcher ) at the Deutsche Bundesbahn before he moved to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Cologne. At an evening school, the technical college for economics, he passed his technical diploma in 1981. He then studied at the Federal University of Applied Sciences to obtain a degree in administrative management (FH). Afterwards he was active in various administrative areas and in larger information technology projects , most recently as head of department in the central department of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. On April 1, 2020, he retired as a senior councilor for reasons of age.

Wäschenbach began in 1985 with local political activities in a citizens' initiative in his hometown Wingendorf to prevent a new industrial area on agricultural land. In 1989 he became a member of the Free Voting Group Churches (Sieg). From 1989 to 1998 he was a member of the local advisory board in Wingendorf, and in 1994 he also became the mayor of Wingendorf there, as well as a board member of the FWG in the Altenkirchen district and in the Koblenz administrative district . In 1999 he moved to Wallmenroth for family reasons , where he was initially a non-party member of the CDU parliamentary group, before joining the CDU in 2004 and being elected mayor in the same year . He was re-elected in 2009, 2014 and 2019.

On January 1, 2012, Wäschenbach became a member of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate . He moved up for the retired Josef Rosenbauer. In the state elections in 2016 , he won the constituency, which was expanded to include the Verbandsgemeinde Rennerod , directly. In the state parliament he works in the committee for health, care and demography and in the committee for social affairs and labor. He is the spokesman for care policy for the CDU parliamentary group and has been chairman of the “Social and Labor” working group since 2019. From 2016 to 2019 he was the CDU's energy policy officer as a member of the environmental committee.

Since September 2018 he has been district chairman of the CDU in the Altenkirchen district.
