Location of Wingendorf in Rhineland-Palatinate

Wingendorf is the westernmost district and a local district of the city of Kirchen (Sieg) in the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald) in northern Rhineland-Palatinate on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia . Wingendorf was an independent municipality until 1969.

geography

The place Wingendorf is located in the middle of forest areas on a high plateau above the Asdorftal .

The district of Wingendorf also includes the hamlet Äpfelbach and the residential areas Düsternseifen, Fallenbach, Gomperten, Heidenhof, Schloß and Forsthaus Junkernthal, Rosenthal, Scheuerthof, Winnersbach and Hof and Forsthaus Würden.

history

Wingendorf is only mentioned as existing in 1746, but is certainly much older. A local noble family "the von Wingendorf" (spelling also Wiingerdorff, Wyngerdorff) can already be found in the historical records from 1370 to 1393.

In addition to agriculture, mining used to be practiced in Wingendorf - as almost everywhere in the area. The most important ore mine "Glücksbrunnen" was closed in 1930.

On June 7, 1969, the previously independent community of Wingendorf with 478 inhabitants at that time was incorporated into Kirchen (Sieg).

politics

Wingendorf is designated as a local district of the city of Kirchen (Sieg) and has a local advisory board and an honorary mayor .

The local advisory board consists of five advisory board members. In the local elections on May 26, 2019 , these advisory board members were elected by majority vote.

The mayor is Gerold Wäschenbach (independent) (as of November 2019). In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was able to prevail against the previous incumbent Torsten Schmidt (CDU) with a share of 56.16% of the vote.

The plan to unite the districts of Wingendorf and Wehbach after the local elections in 2019 was stopped in 2018 after a unanimous rejection by the two local councils concerned by the churches city council.

Culture and sights

The motor and glider airfield Betzdorf / Kirchen is located southwest of the village.

From the state road 279 Friesenhagen - Katzwinkel branches off the district road K 94 at Wingendorf , which leads in an easterly direction to the neighboring district of Wehbach and the L 280.
