Location of Freusburg in Rhineland-Palatinate

Freusburg is a district and a district of the city of Kirchen (Sieg) in the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald) in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate . Until 1969 Freusburg was an independent municipality.

The place is named after Freusburg Castle . It lies between Mudersbach and Kirchen on the right or north of the Sieg . Freusburg consists of the old village of Freusburg around the castle of the same name, now a youth hostel , the Freusburg-Struth development area and the Backhaus district, which is south of the Sieg River.

history

For the first time Freusburg was mentioned in the year 913 under the name "Fruodeesbraderofanc" ( Bifanc on the Fruodberg). Bifanc means estate or manor. The first documented entry dates from 1048. It is estimated that the actual castle was built around 1100. In earlier times the place ( Vroitzburg ) had a high court .

On June 7, 1969, the previously independent community of Freusburg, with a population of 1,187 at that time, was incorporated into Kirchen (Sieg).

Freusburg is designated as a local district of the city of Kirchen (Sieg) and has a local advisory board and an honorary mayor .

Since the last election, the local council has consisted of eight local council members. In the local elections on May 26, 2019 , these advisory board members were elected in a personalized proportional representation.
