Location of Offhausen in Rhineland-Palatinate

Offhausen is a district and - since 2019 together with Herkersdorf - a district of the city of Kirchen (Sieg) in the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald) in northern Rhineland-Palatinate on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia . Offhausen was an independent municipality until 1969.

geography

Offhausen lies in its heavily forested area at the foot of the Druidenstein , a legendary basalt cone at an altitude of 457 m , in the landscape of the Westerwald and Siegerland , between Sieg and Heller . The village itself is about 430 m above sea level. The highest point of the district at the "Windhahn" reaches 517 m.

history

The name of the district is derived from a stop and post station that was called an "open house" around 500 years ago.

On June 7, 1969, the previously independent community of Offhausen with then 273 inhabitants was incorporated into Kirchen (Sieg).

politics

Offhausen - together with Herkersdorf - has been designated as a district of the city of Kirchen (Sieg) since 2019 and has a joint local advisory board and an honorary mayor . Current information can be found at Herkersdorf .

On December 12, 2018, the Churches City Council decided to unite the two previous districts of Herkersdorf and Offhausen into one local district after the 2019 local elections. Both local councils had previously unanimously approved the merger.

The former local council of the independent district of Offhausen, which existed until 2019, had five council members who were last elected in the 2014 local elections in a majority vote.

Culture

There are currently seven clubs with sporting or cultural activities enriching local life. There has been a Backes Association since 2001, which has built a Backes on the village square on its own.

Economy and Infrastructure

The district road K101 connects Offhausen to the road network. It leads to the west via Herkersdorf to Kirchen (Sieg), to the east to Dermbach .
