The Verbandsgemeinde Betzdorf was an administrative unit in the legal form of a regional body in the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald) in Rhineland-Palatinate . The municipality of the association included the city of Betzdorf and four independent local communities , the administrative seat was in the eponymous city of Betzdorf.
On January 1, 2017, the Betzdorf Association was dissolved and the associated communities were assigned to the new Betzdorf-Gebhardshain Association.

The association was in the extreme north-east of Rhineland-Palatinate between the Westerwald and the Siegerland .

history
The mayorry of Betzdorf came into being on April 1st, 1886 by the separation of the communities of Betzdorf, Alsdorf, Grünebach, Sassenroth , Dauersberg, Scheuerfeld, Bruche and Wallmenroth from the mayorry of Kirchen (Sieg) by a decree of the Upper President of the Rhine Province on November 10th, 1885. The community Bruche joined Betzdorf in 1907 through incorporation . In 1927 the mayor's offices were renamed to offices . In 1955, the municipality of Sassenroth was spun off into the newly formed "office-free municipality" of Herdorf . As a result of the administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1968, the "offices" were restructured and given the name " Verbandsgemeinden ".

The coat of arms of the Verbandsgemeinde Betzdorf is split, on the right in red a golden lion with a red tongue looking at the viewer, on the left in black a silver sloping bar, covered with three black boar heads. The lion comes from the coat of arms of the Counts of Sayn and the boar heads from that of the Lords of Freusburg.

The municipality was located approx. 20 kilometers off the A 45 and close to Siegerland Airport with approval for instrument and night flight operations. Cologne / Bonn and Frankfurt airports could be reached by train. The Betzdorf-Kirchen airfield is 4 kilometers northwest of Betzdorf.
