We Invented Paris is a European artist collective or band based in Basel , Switzerland .
The collective not only unites musicians , but also creative people who work elsewhere - the band name is representative of an interdisciplinary art project in which photographers , film artists , graphic artists and designers , especially from Switzerland and Germany, also participate.
history
We Invented Paris was founded in 2010 by Flavian Graber , a Swiss singer and songwriter from Liestal , who until then made music solo under the artist name "Flavian". In March 2010 he recorded an album with producer Alex Sprave in Mannheim and then decided to end his solo project and to start the artist collective "We Invented Paris" with the album in summer 2011. Graber made friends for a CouchSurfing tour through five countries in autumn 2010, including Stefan Schneider (drums), Michael Rückert (keyboard, bass), Bruce Klöti (electric guitar, bass) and Timm Markgraf (filmmaker).
The band has repeatedly caused a sensation with its music, but above all with its concept of the artist collective and the creative activities that go with it. The collective, which describes itself as a family , pursues a committed do-it-yourself path, which is characterized by extraordinary and elaborate actions to get the music to the listener. The band first became known for their action to play a couch surfing tour, during which they drove through Europe for six weeks and played concerts in living rooms. They also pursued activities such as speed gigs 30 concerts in one day , the founding of their own record label Spectacular Spectacular by frontman Flavian Graber, creation of own shares as a crowdfunding campaign to finance the second album. In 2012 they won the TV Noir rocket , in 2013 the audience award of the Basler Pop-Preis 2012. In 2012 the band played two headlining tours through Germany and played at renowned festivals such as the Southside Festival , Hurricane Festival and the AVO Session , the media presence and Underpin radio airplay on stations such as N-Joy , Radio SRF 3 , Fritz RBB , MDR Sputnik , SWR3 , ego.fm, echo-fm, FluxFM , Campus & City Radio St. Pölten etc.
In February 2013 the band recorded their second album in Röhrsdorf Castle near Dresden , where they had already played a concert on their first tour.

We Invented Paris played their first concert on October 29, 2010 in the parterre , Basel. This was the start of the Tour d'Europe - a couch surfing tour with over 40 concerts in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland, where they gave concerts at home with strangers and friends. The concept quickly attracted attention, especially through social media such as Facebook and internet magazines, so We Invented Paris played other concerts in cafes, small clubs and a support tour for the German band Kettcar in November 2010.
In January 2011, three musicians from the artist collective played on the music show TV Noir in Berlin, which turned out to be a stepping stone for the band, as in addition to the videos of the TV Noir appearances by the band, TV Noir as a show subsequently gained a lot of awareness and the show soon became known was then broadcast by ZDFkultur . At the end of the same year, We Invented Paris was also awarded the "TV Noir Rakete" music prize.
In spring 2011 the band started their second headlining tour, again starting in Basel at the club festival BScene , which was followed by a three-week tour in Germany - this time through clubs. On April 21, 2011, We Invented Paris played almost 30 speed gigs on a single day in Heidelberg. The five-person cast played mini-concerts in shops, cafes and on street corners and distributed tickets for the full-length concert on the same evening in Halle02 . During the tour, the band also released their first EP 'Iceberg' with a single of the same name.
After a few festival appearances in summer, the band started the Tour d'Ouverture in September 2011, a four-week club tour as part of the release of their debut album We Invented Paris . More than 5000 people came to the 25 concerts, which with one exception, the official release show in Basel in the Hinterhof Bar on November 3, 2011, all took place in Germany.
In February and March 2012, We Invented Paris went on a TV Noir tour through Germany together with singer-songwriter Moritz Krämer and played 21 appearances in the typical TV Noir living room concert style. Afterwards and through the summer some festival highlights followed such as B. Zermatt Unplugged , Southside Festival & Hurricane Festival , Maifeld Derby , Obstwiesenfestival , Summerstage Basel , Open Flair etc. before they went on a four-week German club tour in autumn: Action Nouvelle Tour. As part of a self-created crowdfunding campaign of the same name , in which fans can buy shares in the second WIP album, the band presented new songs and the shareholder idea at 15 mostly sold-out concerts. The band then concluded the year with appearances as support for headliner Rod Stewart at the renowned AVO Session Basel , at the RollingStone Weekender and with an appearance on the band discovery show on Swiss television 8x15 .
In 2013, We Invented Paris only played a few concerts, such as at the m4music festival, because they are concentrating on the production of their second album.
