Slowtide is the artist name of the Bochum-based singer / songwriter Kevin Werdelmann (born November 1, 1981 ).

biography

Influenced by Vince Clarke and Chris Hülsbeck , Kevin Werdelmann produced songs and soundtracks for his own films on an Amiga 500 home computer at a young age. The first officially audible result of his work was created in 1997 with the electronic concept album London , on which he processed the travel impressions of his first visit to the English metropolis in musical form. Apart from the electronic side, Werdelmann was inspired by bands like Travis , The Verve , Radiohead and songwriters like Nick Drake . He soon developed into a multi-instrumentalist and appeared for the first time as a singer on the two demo EPs Time Escape (2001) and Things That Fade (2002). The stage name Slowtide was born and numerous live performances followed, where he shared the stage with bands such as British Sea Power , Gravenhurst , Eskobar , Hjaltalin and Belasco . Among other things, Slowtide played at the renowned Reeperbahn Festival 2007.

The official debut album Origins , which was recorded almost completely in the bedroom, was released on January 16, 2009 via Marchpane Records and was generally very well received by the press. In the 01/2009 issue of Kulturnews magazine , it was named record of the month. At the following concerts Katharina Werning on bass and Aaron Jablonski on drums joined them.

The again self-produced second album Solaria was released on August 31, 2012 via Timezone in stores. For the song Aimless contained on it , Slowtide released the first official music video in the same year.

For the 20th anniversary, the album London was digitally re-released on November 3, 2017 .

On November 16, 2018, the third album A Gentle Reminder was released via Timezone in stores. It contains newly produced studio versions of pieces from the demo EPs Time Escape & Things That Fade . The music video for the included song Soothing Light was released on October 31st .
