history

2010–2012: Founding and Excuse My French

Henning Sommer (vocals, guitar) started a search query in a musicians internet portal at the beginning of 2010, which, along with many other applicants, was Matthias Kranz (guitar) and Jan Ostendorf (drums). A few rehearsals later, Frederik Deluweit (guitar) turned the trio into a quartet. In October 2010 the first single Oh My God was released as 7 'vinyl and for download on the specially founded label "Less Apocalypse Records". The video for Oh My God premiered on MySpace . In February 2011, the song Ghost , which was available as a free download, was released along with the music video, which was later published as a B-side on the single from Favorite Sound .

In the summer of 2011, the band took part in the Intro magazine's “Mutti we play Melt!” Competition and won an appearance at Melt! Festival .

In November 2011 the debut album Excuse My French followed and the two other releases So Into You and Favorite Sound , which are distributed by Südpol Records and Rough Trade Distribution . The promo single Julie was released in 2013 . Remixes of the singles were produced by I Heart Sharks , Saint Pauli, Coaster Boys, The Pilot, The Coconut Wireless, A Great Paulukka, Cassara, Krink and Christian Strobe. Wilhelm Tell Me remixed in return Summer of I Heart Sharks . A Wilhelm Tell Me tour took them across Germany from November 2012 to February 2014. This was followed by appearances in the Czech Republic, at Hamburg's Christopher Street Day , the Reeperbahn Festival , neoParadise and Omas Teich Festival . In August 2012 Wilhelm Tell Me played at the Expo 2012 in Yeosu in South Korea.

2013–2014: More singles and line-up changes

In 2013 Wilhelm Tell Me released the singles Kite and Fools , as well as Get Up , a collaboration with the singer Birte. Jan Ostendorf left the group in March 2013 and was replaced by Paul Kaiser as a permanent member. In 2014 Frederik Deluweit also finished the project. The trio was supported on tour by Heiko Fischer .

Since 2014: A Short Story for the Road

The album A Short Story For The Road was released in September . The publication was accompanied by their second tour, the A Short Story For The Road tour, which started on August 30, 2014 at the “Dome Of Visions” in Copenhagen and ended on October 26, 2014 in the warehouse in Bremen.

style

The musical style of the group can best be assigned to indie pop, new wave or synth pop, which dominate the debut album Excuse My French . Other elements included are electronics, acoustic ballads such as Aviary or the classic ballad Eve , accompanied only by a piano. For the second studio album, the group experimented with elements from pop rock and alternative rock . For the record A Short Story For The Road , the original indie / synth pop, new wave and acoustic styles were adopted again. The group itself describes their style of music as "post-indie".
