Leo McConville

Leo McConville (born December 10, 1900 in Baltimore , Maryland , † 1968 ) was an American jazz trumpeter (also cornet ).

Live and act

McConville first worked in Maryland, then u. a. at Jean Goldkette in Detroit. He belonged to various jazz studio formations such as The Charleston Chasers , The Georgians and The Louisiana Five in the 1920s and 1930s ; he played u. a. with Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey , Fred Hall , Roger Wolfe Kahn , Eddie Lang , Sam Lanin , Miff Mole , Arthur Schutt , Ben Selvin , Cornell Smelser , Paul Specht , Don Voorhees and Joe Venuti , also in the country band Rex Cole's Mountaineers . In the field of jazz he was involved in 177 recording sessions between 1923 and 1931. Until his death in 1968 he performed with local bands such as the Bob Craig Band and an orchestra conducted by Bob Iula.

According to John RT Davies , McConville has been overshadowed by Red Nichols in his career . Brian Rust praises Leo McConville's fine tone and technical ability, which was characterized by good taste.
