Six60
Six60 is a New Zealand fusion rock band from Dunedin who mix their music with drum and bass and reggae , among other things .
Band history
Matiu Walters and James Fraser went to Dunedin in 2005 to study music. They teamed up with three other musicians and eventually formed the band Six60, named after the number of their shared apartment at 660 Castle Street.
Their first EP with seven titles came in 2008. They took Campbell Smith from RIANZ, a professional manager, who got them a record deal with Universal . In August 2010 her debut single Rise Up 2.0 was released there , which went straight to number 5. However, it took a second attempt at the end of the year so that the song rose to number 1 in January 2011. With the second single Don't Forget Your Roots they were able to confirm their success in the summer and reached number 2 for two weeks. The first single achieved platinum status, the second even double platinum status .
Their debut album, named after the band, was released in October 2011 and jumped straight to the top of the New Zealand charts . It was in the hit parade for over a year and a half and was awarded four times platinum. After that, with the exception of a live EP from iTunes, things got quieter around Six60, until they reported back at the end of 2014 in anticipation of a new album. With the single special they had their second number one hit in November. The second album Six60 (2) followed at the beginning of 2015 and also entered the charts at number 1 in March.
