Tom Grennan
Tom Grennan (born June 8, 1995 in Bedford ) is a British singer-songwriter .
Life
Tom Grennan grew up in Bedford as the son of a construction worker and a teacher. Initially, he focused on a career as a footballer and played in the youth clubs of Luton Town , Northampton Town , Aston Villa and Stevenage FC . While he was working on his A-Levels , he was fired from his club and his football career was about to end. According to his own statements, he then went to a party and got very drunk. There he sang karaoke and despite his battered condition, he delighted his classmates at the time with a version of The Kooks' Seaside . They decided to make music together and together with him they founded a music group that lasted until their studies.
Since Grennan had not yet considered a music career, he first studied acting in London. During this time he taught himself to play guitar by himself or via YouTube . Then he began performing in pubs. One evening he was discovered there by the record label Insanity and got his first record deal.
In 2016 his first EP Something in the Water was released , which was produced by Charlie Hugall ( Florence + The Machine , The Maccabees ). This was followed by a number of guest appearances, including in the video of Charli XCX's video for Boys and Memory Lane, a duet with Bugzy Malone . He was also known for a song for Sky's coverage of the Premier League . His first work impressed, among others, Elton John , who encouraged the young artist to continue.
He made another big appearance in 2016 as a guest on When It All Goes Wrong , a single by Chase & Status that hit # 65 on the UK charts .
On July 6, 2018, his debut album Lighting Matches was finally released , which reached number 5 in the British charts.
