Awa Ly (born January 4, 1977 in Paris ) is a French singer-songwriter and actress. She has Senegalese roots and lives in Rome .

Life

Awa Ly grew up in Paris as the daughter of Senegalese parents, but later moved to Rome, originally only as a temporary substitute. There she became known as an actress and released several albums. She writes her own songs; partly she sings Afropop , partly jazz-like. Your texts are in English. In 2016 she sang the song Here with the reggae singer Faada Freddy about the fate of boat refugees on the Mediterranean. In April / May 2017 she toured Germany. The mdr recommended her CD Five and a Feather, released in 2016, in February 2017 as “CD of the week”.
