The Marescot Point ( French Cap Marescot ) is a small and rocky headland in the north of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 4 km east of Thanaron Point on the north coast of the Trinity Peninsula .
The French polar explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville discovered and named the headland on February 27, 1838 as part of the Third French Antarctic Expedition (1837-1840). It is named after Jacques Marie Eugène Marescot du Thilleul (1810–1839), officer on board the Astrolabe during d'Urville's expedition, who died on November 23, 1839 on this ship. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee transferred the French name to English on February 12, 1964, adapting to the actual nature of the object.
