The Thanaron Point ( French Cap Tannaron [sic]) is a rocky headland in the north of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 13 km east-northeast of Cape Roquemaurel on the north coast of the Trinity Peninsula .
The French polar explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville discovered and named the headland in 1838 as part of the Third French Antarctic Expedition (1837-1840). It is named after Charles Jules Adolphe Thanaron (1809–1886), officer on board the Zélée on d'Urville's research expedition. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee transferred the French name to English on November 21, 1949, corrected orthographically and adapted to the actual nature of the object.
