Isen is a market town in the Upper Bavarian district of Erding . Isen is the southernmost and with more than 5800 inhabitants the fifth largest municipality in the district. The place of the same name is the main town of the municipality.

location

The Isen market is located about 20 kilometers southeast of the district town of Erding , eleven kilometers southwest of Dorfen , 26 kilometers northwest of Wasserburg am Inn and 18 kilometers north of Ebersberg . The distance from Munich Airport is 34 kilometers. The community is located in the upper Isental .

There is a public transport connection from Markt Schwaben with the MVV bus route 505 (Monday – Friday 5 am–7pm) and with the MVV RufTaxi 5050 (evenings and weekends).

Until the church is planted

It was first mentioned in a document in 747. The first church in Isen is documented in 752. The monastery Isen one of the oldest monasteries on altbayerischem ground. In 1434 Isen was granted market rights. Since the Middle Ages, the market was one of the Bishopric of Freising counting rule Burgrain . With the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the place came to Bavaria. Isen became an independent political municipality in the course of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1818.

19th and 20th centuries

From September 27, 1900, Isen had a connection to the railway network via the Thann-Matzbach-Haag line. However, passenger traffic was discontinued on September 28, 1968, freight traffic gradually until December 1, 1991, and the route was dismantled.

On July 1, 1972, Isen came from the disbanded district of Wasserburg to the district of Erding as a result of the regional reform .

Incorporations

On April 1, 1971, the communities Westach , Schnaupping and Isen merged to form the Isen market. On May 1, 1978, the community of Mittbach was incorporated.

Since 1972, the year of the municipal reform, the population has increased by 1912 until 2015. This corresponds to a growth of 49.87 percent. In the last ten (five) years the population increased by 9.91 (5.98) percent.

Municipal council

After the local elections on March 15, 2020, the parties CSU , SPD with Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen (Greens), Free Voters (FW), and Mittbach List (ML) are represented in the municipal council. As in 2014, the New Citizens List (NBL) has not started. The municipal council is now composed as follows (with comparative figures from the 2014 and 2008 elections):

The professional first mayor is Irmgard Hibler (FW). In the mayor's run-off election on March 29, 2020, she was elected with 50.59% of the vote just ahead of her competitor Michael Feuerer (CSU), after he was ahead of her in the first ballot. The second mayor is now Michael Feuerer (CSU), and Hans Angermaier (ML) was again elected as the third mayor.

From 1978 to 1996 Hans Edmund Lechner was the first mayor. His successor from May 1996 to April 2020 was Siegfried Fischer (FW).

The coat of arms of Markt Isen was awarded by Emperor Charles V in 1548 and confirmed on February 8, 1984 after the municipal reform

Architectural monuments

The Catholic parish church of St. Zeno , the former collegiate church of the monastery of St. Zeno , is a three-aisled pillar basilica with a crypt and three apses. It was built around 1200 based on the model of the Freising Cathedral , the tower and the western vestibule date from the beginning of the 15th century. 1697–1701 and around 1730 the building was redesigned in Baroque style .

Burgrain Castle : keep in the 12th / 13th centuries Built in the 17th century; from 1227 (until 1803) seat of the Freising carers, the Burgrain dominion belonging to the Freising monastery. Several renovations in the following centuries, St. Georg Castle Church.

Personalities

  • Max Heilmaier (* 1869 in Isen; † 1923). Heilmaier was a well-known sculptor of the time. Together with two colleagues he created the Friedensengel in Munich.
Georg Escherich
  • Georg Escherich (* 1870 in Schwandorf; † 1941 in Munich), founder of the Escherich organization , was head of the Isen Forestry Office. Georg-Escherich-Strasse is a reminder of him.
  • Franz Xaver Mittermaier (born January 30, 1871 in Isen; † 1939). Mittermaier founded the first Bavarian battery factory in 1897. In 1919 he was the first mayor of the market until 1936, from 1915 to 1921 he founded the Association of Bavarian Private Electricity Works (VBEW) and was a member of the board of the Association of the Electricity Industry . Between 1921 and 1923 he founded Kraftwerke Haag AG with the Soyensee hydroelectric power station.
