From 784 to 811 a first fortress was built under Bishop Atto von Freising, which was occupied from 1140 to 1290 by the Lords of Burgrain, Freising ministers. In 1227 the castle became the seat of the princely-freisinger burgrave of the Burgrain dominion . In a conflict with the Counts of Haag, the castle is captured in 1317. From 1600 the castle was occupied by rulers. The place and especially the seat suffered extensive destruction in the Thirty Years War. In 1802 the rule was finally dissolved, the castle was the seat of a private economy with a brewery and excursion beer garden. In 1818 the place became part of the newly created community Mittbach and came with this to Isen in 1978. In 2008 the old school building in the center of the village was demolished, two years before the 1200th anniversary celebration (2010).
