Soccer World Cup 1998 / Germany
This article covers the German national team at the 1998 World Cup in France .
qualification
After a difficult start against Northern Ireland and Portugal , the German team managed to qualify as first place for the World Cup, although they only achieved one victory against one competitor. The Ukraine came as runner-up still in a playoff game. Because of unrest in Albania (so-called lottery uprising ), the international match against Germany had to be played on neutral ground on April 2, 1997.
