Khodadad Azizi ( Persian خداداد عزیزی Chodadad ʿAzizi ; * June 22, 1971 in Mashhad ) is a former Iranian soccer player .
Career
At the beginning of his football career, Azizi played for Abu Muslim Mashhad and FC Bahman Karadsch . The international striker came to 1. FC Köln from Persepolis Tehran in 1997 . He made 20 appearances in the Bundesliga and scored a total of five goals . When the club was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1998 , Azizi remained loyal to the traditional Cologne club . After returning to the Bundesliga, however, he left the club in 2000 for the USA , where he signed a contract with the San José Earthquakes . Only a year later he moved to Al-Nasr in the UAE and shortly afterwards he joined the traditional Iranian club Pas Tehran . He played for the "Greens" for four years and scored a total of 23 goals. In 2005 he returned to Europe . He received a contract with VfB Admira Wacker Mödling in Austria , which he left after a short time. Both sides cited insurmountable differences between the coach at the time and Azizi as the reason . He then returned to Iran and played one season each for Oghab FC and Rah Ahan . In 2006, Azizi ended his career as an active footballer.
Khodadad Azizi played a total of 47 international matches for the Iranian national soccer team , in which he scored eleven goals.
In early 2007 he began a coaching career at Abu Muslim Mashhad . After only one year there, however, he was dismissed without notice in October 2007. Azizi has been the Technical Director at Payam Mashhad since 2008 , with whom he recently made the promotion to the IPL .
