history
Abu Moslem Mashhad was founded in 1970 and is named after the Persian national hero Abū Muslim . In 1975 the club qualified for the Takhte Jamshid Cup and became the best non- Tehran club . However, he was unable to maintain the level and was relegated shortly afterwards. It was not until 1991 that they returned to the Azadegan League , Iran's top division at the time . Since then, the team has mostly played against relegation.
In early 2007, the former Iranian international Khodadad Azizi became the team's coach. After one season, however , Azizi was released again. Since May 2008 Akbar Misaghian, who coached the club in 1996–1999 and 2004–2006, has been introduced as the new team boss.
In the IPL season 2009/10 Abu Moslem landed at the end of the season on the penultimate place in the table and had to relegate to the second-class Azadegan League .
