Karim Bagheri (born February 24, 1974 in Tabriz ) is a former Iranian football player who was last in the service of Persepolis Tehran .
Career
society
The midfielder Bagheri began playing football at Teraktorsazi Tabriz and came to Persepolis Tehran via the Keshavarz FC station . Here he quickly became a fan favorite and attracted attention with his good style of play. For the 1997/1998 season he finally moved together with his national team-mate Ali Daei to the then Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld .
Bagheri scored three goals in 18 games in his first Bundesliga season, but could n't prevent Arminia from being relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga . While Daei moved to Bayern Munich after this season , Bagheri stayed in Bielefeld. He earned a regular place in the libero position in the 1998/99 season and was involved with his two goals in 22 league games in the rise of Bielefeld at the end of the season.
In the following first division season 1999/2000 Bagheri returned within the season back to Persepolis Tehran , from where he was transferred directly to Al-Nasr Sports Club Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on loan. Reasons for this transfer from the Bundesliga were on the one hand to be found in personal differences between Bagheri and the club. On the other hand, Bagheri's well-paid contract had become too expensive for the club, which was financially troubled at the time, so that the player could no longer be financed.
Due to his good performances in the Bundesliga, English football clubs had become aware of him and so Bagheri moved to the Premier League club Charlton Athletic shortly after moving to Al-Nasr . Here he played only 15 minutes in an entire season and after one season he moved to Al-Sadd in Qatar . Again after only one season, Bagheri returned to his home club Persepolis Tehran . There he played until his retirement in 2011. In 2008 he was able to win his second championship.
National team
Karim Bagheri was appointed to the team of the Iranian national team for the first time in qualifying for the 1994 World Cup . Bagheri made his debut on June 6, 1993 against Pakistan . He played a total of 80 games for Iran and scored 47 goals. In 1998 Bagheri took part in the 1998 World Cup in France and in 1997 was second in the world goalscorer ranking behind Ronaldo with 20 goals .
2001 Bagheri resigned from the national team after missing qualification for the 2002 World Cup and in 2006 refused a request from the national coach ( Branko Ivanković ) for a comeback. Bagheri returned to the Iranian team in a World Cup qualifier in 2008.
