Luis Arturo Hernández Carreón (born December 22, 1968 in Poza Rica , Veracruz ) is a former Mexican football player . He is considered one of the most famous players and greatest scorer in Mexican football history. He played for the Mexican national soccer team from 1995 to 2004.

In Mexico he played in several clubs: Cruz Azul , Monterrey , Necaxa , America , Tigres , Veracruz , and Chiapas but he also played abroad such as in Argentina with the Boca Juniors . After 1997 he went back to Mexico to Necaxa, but moved in 2000 to Major League Soccer at Los Angeles Galaxy . In 2002 Hernández ended his career and went back home.

His nickname is El Matador (the killer) because of the many goals he has scored. He also took part in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups. At the 1998 World Cup, he scored four goals for Mexico. He was also the top scorer of the 1997 Copa America in Bolivia with six goals . His long, blond hair, his trademark, is also known.
