Poza Rica de Hidalgo , also Poza Rica for short , is a city in the Mexican state of Veracruz . The city has 185,242 inhabitants (2010 census) and is the administrative seat of the Municipio Poza Rica de Hidalgo . The city became rich through the discovery of oil. The city is 50 m. ü. M.

history

In 1872 some Totonaks settled in the area. In 1905 the settlement was called kilometer 56 because it was the 56th kilometer of the new Cobos-Furbero railway line . In 1932 El Águila moved his offices to Pozo Rica de Hidalgo. It was only declared a city in 1951 . In 1966 the Instituto Mexicano del Petróleo was founded in the city .
