history

Wave fidelitas

The wave Fidelitas started on December 18, 1987 and initially shared its frequency with Radio Badenia. After the State Office for Communication awarded the frequency to Welle Fidelitas alone, Radio Badenia successfully sued for airtime. An oldie-heavy music program was broadcast.

The wave

After a media law reform, the timeshare program Radio Badenia was discontinued in 1994 and the wave Fidelitas, which had now remained on the frequencies, was renamed Die Welle. The originally oldie-heavy music format was also increasingly adapted to the format radio. In March 2002, the State Institute for Communication withdrew the broadcasting license for economic reasons and so the broadcasting had to be stopped on the night of July 31st to August 1st, 2002 despite many protests. The last song played was "The End" by the Doors . Most recently, the market share of the wave in the transmission area was 1.5 percent.

Hitradio RTL

On August 1, 2002, the station started under the name Hitradio RTL on the frequencies of Die Welle , whose license was not renewed.

Hit 1

After the exit of the RTL group in August 2003, the station was sold to a consortium under Burda Broadcast, Studio Gong and the Neue Welle Baden and renamed Hit 1 Radio . From 2004 the station was called Hit 1 - the Reporter Radio . The program had to struggle with the falling number of listeners and so the number of listeners per hour fell from 16,000 to 7,000 in the period from March to July 2004. This led to the dismissal of the managing director Christian Frietsch in July 2005. It was not until the summer of 2006 that a final successor was found for Frietsch in Andrea-Alexa Kuszák.

The new wave

On January 1, 2007, the name was changed to Die neue Welle with the consent of the rights holder of the previous broadcaster . With this, the station wants to express the reference to the "old wave" that was on air from 1987 to 2002.

Robin Schuster has been managing the radio station as managing director since April 1, 2018.
