Localization of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany

The Rotenberg transmitter is a broadcasting facility on the 320  m high Vorderen Rotenberg , immediately north of the A 6 motorway near Kaiserslautern , approx. 100 meters north of the location of the first radio transmitter in Kaiserslautern, which ceased operations in 1945. The transmitter consists of a 120-meter-high transmission mast for Südwestrundfunk , which was erected on this site in 1951. The Rotenberg transmitter is isolated from earth, as it was used as a self-radiating transmission mast for a medium wave transmitter until 1975 .

Since 2004 it has been used again in a field test as a medium-wave transmitter for broadcasts on Digital Radio Mondiale . From May 27, 2006 to December 4, 2007, four SWR programs were also broadcast via DVB-T from Rotenberg, which were then taken over by the Kaiserslautern telecommunications tower in Dansenberg from December 4, 2007 .

The ad-free SWR youth program DASDING has been broadcast on VHF since May 19, 2005 .
