Erci Ergün

Erci Ergün (* 1973 in Berlin ; artist name Erci E. ) is a German - Turkish musician , producer and radio host . He was a member of the Cartel music group in the mid-1990s .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1993, Erci Ergün studied political science for four semesters at the Free University of Berlin . After dropping out of his studies, he began to moderate at the then newly founded radio station Kiss FM in Berlin. After a short time he could be heard there every Sunday with his radio show “Turkish Kisses”. There he played RnB and Hip-Hop in a mix with Turkish pop music, which was a new concept at the time. This mixture of music represented the listening habits and tastes of the German-Turkish youth.

In the Turkish-speaking hip-hop formation Cartel , he appeared under the name Erci E., having previously had his own Turkish-speaking project as a rapper under this name. After the success with Cartel in Turkey (platinum award) and the subsequent separation, Ergün continued to appear as a solo artist, now rapping in German as well ( Weil ich ein Türke , 1999), but had with his Turkish-language albums Sohbet (1997) and Bin Arabama (2004) in turn achieved greater success in Turkey, the home of his parents.

In 1998/1999 Ergün took part in the Peter Maffay project “Encounters” with two colleagues . A joint song with Peter Maffay Maffay 'la Cartel was recorded and released. The accompanying video was recorded in Berlin and Istanbul. The project that brought people together reached its climax in a major joint tour of Germany. The “Encounters” project was awarded a platinum plate.

At the age of 33 he decided to move to Turkey, but has lived in Berlin again since 2007: “For me, home is Germany and primarily Berlin. This is where I was born and raised. I belong here, ”said the musician in a newspaper interview.

In addition, Erci E. initially continued to work as a radio presenter at Kiss FM, later on the RBB programs Radio Multikulti and Fritz . From 2009 to 2012 Ergün could be heard regularly on You FM of the Hessischer Rundfunk . In Berlin he presents the “Soundgarden”, a radio program on Radio Fritz, and “Turkish Delight”, a weekly radio program on the German-Turkish radio station Metropol FM .
