Fuckparade

Fuckparade 2006

The Fuckparade (short form: FuPa) is an annual techno parade and demonstration in Berlin that has been taking place since 1997 , originally a counter-movement to the Love Parade .

According to the organizers, the main reasons were the displacement of undesirable techno styles ( hardcore techno , gabba ) and the commercialization of the Love Parade (high participation fees for cars, sponsorship outside the scene , no political statements despite demonstration status). In addition, the closure of the techno club Bunker in Albrechtstrasse in Berlin-Mitte and the associated “sell-out” of the Scheunenviertel were discussed.

The Fuckparade sees itself as a contemporary form of a demonstration. The organizers see the music as a political means of expression for the DJs , MCs and live acts as well as an elementary part of the demonstration. In 2001, the Berlin Assembly Authority issued the “radio ban”. In May 2007 the Federal Administrative Court ruled that the Fuckparade is an event under the Assembly Act ( demonstration ).

Naming of the Fuckparade

The name "Fuckparade" is derived from the shortened form of " Fuck the Loveparade". The Fuckparade was originally called Hateparade ('hate' is the opposite of 'love'). Some media interpreted it as a "parade of hatred " (e.g. Focus and Spiegel TV ). In 1997, punks called for “ Chaostage in Berlin” and also used the term Hateparade ; this was also a reason to rename the parade in 1998.

Political goals of the organizers

The organizers' reasons for demonstration are the increasing commercialization of culture and public space as well as the abuse of the right of assembly through purely commercial events, in particular through the Love Parade. The consideration of subcultural minorities in urban development and cultural policy is required . Since 2001 there has also been demonstration for a free choice of demonstration means . The spokesman for the Fuckparade Martin Kliehm said in 2001: “In contrast to the Love Parade, since 1997 the focus of the Fuckparade has been on the political party environment: advocating a healthy subculture and liveable inner cities, against the destruction of public space and against urban planning only for financially strong target groups ”. In addition, the organizers take a position against right-wing extremism .

history

1995 to 2000

On July 8, 1995, DJ Cut-X ( Gabba Nation ) gave his tape recording from the Gabba floor the name “Hateparade-Mixx ” at a party that took place on the 1995 Love Parade weekend in the bunker (“hardest club on earth”) ".

The last party for the time being was to take place on December 14th in the bunker, which had been officially sealed since mid-1996. Among others, Martin Kliehm from Frankfurt (DJ Trauma XP) and the Berlin DJ team Gabba Nation should also play there . The police cleared the club shortly after 11 p.m. Around 400 party-goers spontaneously gathered on the street and danced to the gabba sound from the speakers of the XOL DOG 400 car . The police spoke to 1:10 offs and triggered the collection on. Some visitors gathered in the occupied Eimer cultural center on Rosenthaler Strasse.

On March 29, 1997, XOL DOG 400 organized the Gabba party UltraCore in the Berlin underground club Eimer . The DJs Trauma XP and Cut-X spoke under the impressions of December 14th about the idea of a counter-demonstration for the Love Parade. The first Fuckparade was then carried out on July 12, 1997 under the name Hateparade parallel to the Love Parade with six cars and around 1000 participants. The Hateparade logo was derived from that of the Love Parade and showed hand grenades instead of hearts. The hat parade started at the bunker and led to Alexanderplatz . Trauma XP was the applicant, XOL DOG 400 helped with the organization, Cut-X hung up on a Russian Ural . In addition to the initiators, scene artists such as Christoph Fringeli (Praxis Rec.), Panacea , Problem Child (Position Chrome) and EC8OR ( DHR ) performed hard and brutal sound on the music trucks . But there was also a car with live punk and one with house .

Since the name Hateparade led to misunderstandings, the Hateparade was renamed Fuckparade in 1998 and took place on July 11, 1998 with eleven cars and around 2000 demonstrators. Upon notification by the operator of techno.de , the Frankfurt am Main public prosecutor initiated an investigation against Trauma XP because the latter had sent an email with the announcement of the Fuckparade to the Love Parade mailing list with a different sender . The investigation for "falsification of technical records" was discontinued on August 5, 1999 as unfounded (Az. 50 Js 30293.0 / 98).

For the Fuckparade on July 10, 1999, a former protagonist of the Love Parade joined for the first time with WolleXDP . Due to his active participation, there was an open discussion of content between the Love Parade and the Fuck Parade within the German techno scene . There were again eleven cars with Gabba, Speedcore , Techno , House, Breakbeat , Noise , Industrial , Trance and Drum and Bass from the Adalbert 6 , Wolle's Club Discount , Dr. Dr. Bartholdy, the occupied cultural center Eimer , Klangkrieg, Lisa Simpson's Dream and the pirate station Twen FM .

2000 until today

On July 8th, 2000 , the last Fuckparade with unrestricted demonstration status took place:

The demonstration route went from the bunker to the Mauerpark in Prenzlauer Berg . It led directly through the Berlin neighborhoods, which were affected by the displacement of subculture through clear-cut restoration, and wanted to make the topic clear. With 28 cars and an estimated 5,000 (police) to 10,000 (organizers) participants, it was the largest fuck parade ever held. The Berlin DJs also wore Fuckparade shirts at the big Love Parade parties. In many interviews, however, not only they suddenly made demands to preserve their subcultural living spaces. The techno world, which had hitherto been purely fun-oriented, was increasingly perceived as politicized.

A video was recorded during the event that later went viral as an internet phenomenon called " Techno Viking ".

The Fuckparade demonstration, originally planned for July 14, 2001 , was banned. The Berlin Administrative Court recognized the Fuckparade 2001 as a demonstration in an urgent procedure, the Higher Administrative Court Berlin-Brandenburg (OVG) did not recognize the Fuckparade 2001 as a demonstration in an urgent procedure. The Federal Constitutional Court found in the urgent procedure that the decision of the OVG was not grossly wrong and that the final clarification had to take place in the regular main proceedings. The pending main proceedings ended in spring 2007 with a ruling by the Federal Administrative Court in favor of the organizers. Thereupon the organizers planned a demonstration "For freedom of demonstration, for a free choice of the means of a demonstration".

As a negative measure, the Berlin Senate of the Interior and the Berlin Assembly Authority subordinate to it prohibited the organizers of this demonstration from playing music and using any electronic voice amplifiers except megaphones . The organizers then called on the participants of the demonstration to bring portable radio receivers. This campaign was supported by the public broadcaster Radio Fritz . This broadcast live from the end of the demonstration at the Berlin Volksbühne on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin-Mitte . The assembly authorities thereupon ordered the strict enforcement of their requirements and had the parking lot for the demonstration, an approx. 3000 m² intersection in downtown Berlin ( Frankfurter Tor ), hermetically sealed by the police. Passers-by and demonstrators were body-searched by the police and people with radios or walkmans were banned from entering or crossing the square. There were seizures of such devices and arrests . The police also banned the organizers from amplifying their speeches through loudspeakers. Only the use of megaphones was permitted. As a result, the rally could not be followed by most of those present. Martin Kliehm (DJ Trauma XP) and WolleXDP , two of the speakers at the rally, could not be understood a little further away.

The Fuckparade was approved in 2002 after passing through the courts under certain conditions (including limited number of cars to three, significant volume reduction). This form of demonstration was not very popular with the mostly young demonstrators. About 1500 (police figures: 600) people took part in the demonstration on July 13, 2002. Police officers and other law enforcement officers were out with measuring devices to determine the volume. Due to the strict requirements, speeches by DJ Tanith , Trauma XP , MCs and politicians ( Lisa Paus , Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ; Stefan Liebich , PDS ) were placed in front of the demonstration . As in 2001, the restriction of freedom of demonstration was discussed. The route led again from the bunker to the Rotes Rathaus . In September, the assembly authority filed a criminal complaint for "violation of the conditions". The criminal proceedings ended in April 2003 with an acquittal .

The Fuckparade 2003 was initially not approved, but took place again on July 5, 2003 with speeches after renewed urgent decisions by the Administrative Court and the Higher Administrative Court . The Love Parade no longer took place at that time; it was no longer an issue for the Fuck Parade. For the first time, the Fuckparade was therefore held a week before the Love Parade with six music cars. The route ran in reverse in 2003 with a kick-off rally at the Rotes Rathaus and a final rally at the bunker, " Christopher Street " of the Fuckparade. After the police violently dissolved a Teknival near the French village of Le Faouët in Brittany on July 18th and seriously injured 28 dancers, the Fuckparade organized on August 1st together with Loveparade founder Dr. Motte held a protest rally in front of the French embassy in Berlin and, together with the night dance demo, a demonstration at the French consulate general in Frankfurt am Main .

The Fuckparade 2004 was approved by the assembly authority and took place on July 3, 2004 without conditions and legal proceedings with eleven cars and about 1000 participants. The route was slightly modified and passed the Palace of the Republic . The Love Parade was canceled due to a lack of sponsors.

The Fuckparade 2005 took place on August 6th. There was also a demonstration in front of the Czech embassy against the violent police attacks at Czechtek in 2005. The demonstration began at 3 p.m. with various speeches and then moved from 4.10 p.m. with eleven vans from Leipziger Platz via Leipziger Straße , Friedrichstraße , Kochstraße , Oranienstraße , Adalbertstraße , Waldemarstraße, Köpenicker Straße, Engeldamm , Schillingbrücke , Holzmarktstraße and Stralauer Platz to the East Side Gallery on the street of the Paris Commune ( Ostbahnhof ). The demonstration with around 1000 participants arrived there around 8 p.m. The Fuckparade organized a demonstration from the American to the Czech embassy on September 9th . On September 24th, another demonstration of the Fuckparade led with music cars from the American to the Czech embassy. On the same day the Fuck Parade took place for the third time as a counter-demonstration to the Love Parade in San Francisco . Trauma XP traveled as a speaker to a CzechTek rally in Prague on September 28th . A large demonstration in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg , to which the Fuckparade and others mobilized, was postponed to April 15, 2006 because of the unrest in France .

Fuckparade 2006

In 2006 , the Fuckparade took part in various events and demonstrations in order to express itself more clearly on socially critical content in addition to the traditional topic for a free development of subcultures apart from the (commercial) mainstream. So she mobilized u. a. for the Europe-wide large-scale demonstration in front of the European Parliament in France on April 15, 2006, the demonstration “No Kiez for Nazis” in Berlin-Friedrichshain and the Europe-wide, socially critical large- scale demonstration “ EuroMayDay ” (also in Berlin). The regular Fuckparade demonstration began on July 29th at 2 p.m. at the bunker opposite the Natural History Museum (Reinhardtstrasse) and ended at 8 p.m. on Schloßplatz .

The 2007 Fuckparade took place on August 18th. Topics included the planned surveillance laws , restrictions on civil rights , the demolition of the ice cream factory , urban restructuring as part of the Mediaspree project and the action against subcultures . According to the police, around 2500 demonstrators and 15 vehicles took part. The route began at Frankfurter Tor , with a view to the legal dispute that had recently been won (radio ban 2001) .

The Fuckparade 2008 started on August 9th at Michaelbrücke . Demonstrations took place for the Black Channel , the Köpi , the New York and Bethanien as well as against “ arbitrary police force ”, “drug hysteria”, gentrification and the media spree .

The Fuckparade 2009 moved on August 22nd in sunny weather from Revaler Straße via Mühlenstraße, Köpenicker Straße, Oranienstraße, Moritzplatz to the end point in Dircksenstraße (S + U-Bhf. Jannowitzbrücke). With 3,000–4,000 participants, the Fuckparade was very popular. The subject of the “Fuckparade 2009” was the creeping undiscussed urban restructuring in Berlin. The investor-led redesign of the banks of the Spree was highlighted as a key issue in 2009.

On August 21, 2010 the Fuckparade started in Berlin at Leipziger Platz. Due to the events in Duisburg , following the speeches on Leipziger Platz, the victims of the Love Parade 2010 were remembered with a minute's silence, to which Dr. Motte (Matthias Roeingh, founder of the Loveparade), Trauma XP ( Martin Kliehm ), XOL DOG 400 (Christian Müller) and moog_t (Thomas Rupp, all three co-founders of the Fuckparade) called. The route of the demonstration, which led through the city center to the final rally in Revaler Strasse near Ostkreuz, was 11 km long. Around 4,000 to 5,000 people moved with the 15 music wagons.

The Fuckparade 2011 started on August 20th at the “ Bunker ” on Reinhardtstrasse and Albrechtstrasse. The opening rally took place there with numerous speeches on the motto of the Fuckparade 2011. The motto was: “ Promote subculture! Stop evictions! Use vacancy! ". From there, the Fuckparade with 19 music cars and around 8,000 participants moved in bright sunshine over Friedrichstrasse, Torstrasse, Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse, Memhardstrasse, Alexanderplatz, Karl Marx Allee, Straußberger Platz, Lichtenberger Strasse, Holzmarktstrasse, Stralauer Platz, Mühlenstrasse, Warschauer Brücke , Warschauer Strasse, Bersarinplatz in Petersburger Strasse, where the final rally took place. As in the previous year, the route was 11 kilometers long.

On August 25, 2012 , the Fuckparade ran from Mauerpark / Eberswalder Strasse with 17 cars over almost 9 km via Bernauer Strasse, Wolliner Strasse, Anklamer Strasse, Brunnenstrasse, Torstrasse, Oranienburger Strasse, Tucholskystrasse and over the Ebertbrücke across the city center. At Checkpoint Charlie, the demonstration with 9,000 to 10,000 participants then reached Kreuzberg and moved via Friedrichstrasse, Rudi-Dutschke-Strasse, Oranienstrasse and Wiener Strasse to Spreewaldplatz, where the final rally took place. This year the main demonstrations were against gentrification, the Gema tariff increases for music events and against the imprisonment of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot .

The 2013 Fuckparade took place on September 7th of that year under the motto " Back 2 the Rootz ". In 2013, FuPa moved four cars from the “ bunker ” in Reinhardtstrasse through the center of Berlin towards Friedrichshain. Past United Nations Square via Lichtenberger Straße and Strausberger Platz to Karl-Marx-Allee, which was followed in an easterly direction to Warschauer Straße. From Warschauer Strasse the demo moved on via Revaler Strasse, Modersohnbrücke, Stralauer Allee to the place of the final rally on the Stralau peninsula. The fallow land with the two disused buildings of the former glassworks at Kynaststrasse offered a suitable post-industrial ambience for the final rally with around two thousand people and four sound systems.

The Fuckparade 2014 took place on September 6th of that year under the motto “ We are the tip of the iceberg ”.

The  Fuckparade 2015  took place on September 5th of that year under the motto " Hearing is disturbing ".

The Fuckparade 2016 took place on October 15th of that year under the motto “ Music knows no borders! But we know ours! " instead of.

The Fuckparade 2017 took place on August 19th of that year under the motto “ No Nation No Border - Still loving free party, fuck the system! " instead of.

The Fuckparade 2018 took place on September 1st of that year.

The Fuckparade 2019 took place on August 31st of that year under the motto “ Nazi-free and noisy ”.

Similar demonstrations

In other cities, too, demonstrations with similar goals and in a comparable form have taken place, for example the “ Viennese folk dance” demonstration. The night dance demo takes place annually in Frankfurt am Main, usually in summer . In Switzerland , there is the 1996 Anti Parade . This takes place in Zurich as a counter- parade to the street parade on the same day. In Austria, the FreeRePublic took place annually from 2001 to 2004, replaced by the Freeparade in 2007 . In 2005 the third Fuckparade took place in San Francisco . It ran under the motto "Fuck Corporate Parties". The concept of transporting political content through dance and electronic music in a non-commercial way is also taken up by the Hedonist International at various demonstrations .

Criticism of the Fuckparade

The Fuckparade has been publicly criticized since 2003. The anarchist music collective freak-animals.org published a leaflet with the title “Mogelpackung Fuckparade”, in which the behavior and political thinking of a steward crew and another person from the organization were heavily criticized. In addition, the Fuckparade was reproached for not explicitly demarcating itself against right-wing radical and anti-Semitic tendencies at its own event.

In March 2006 a leaflet was published by the “Fred Hirschmann” working group. In “Cool kids don't dance with Gabbernazis ... especially not at the Fuckparade”, a lack of demarcation from right-wing extremist visitors was also criticized: the “counter-Nazis” symbol on the Fuckparade flyer was “just lip service”. It was also criticized that the Fuckparade would pursue location politics and represent “adapted ideas” by calling for cooperation with the police.

The Fuckparade then published a press release "On the attacks by 'Fred Hirschmann'", in which it was pointed out that it was a public event and that it was not possible to check every participant.

In December 2006, Christoph Fringeli dealt with the politics of the Fuckparade in the Praxis Records newsletter. From a historical point of view, he criticized the Freetekno movement for the fact that the Fuckparade saw itself as a spokesman and representative of this movement. In particular, Fringeli describes the successes listed by the Fuckparade on their website as "bizarre". These are the only achievements of the state that the Fuckparade would write on its own banner.
