In electronic music

A live act by electronic dance musicians is a musical live performance in the field of electronic music. In contrast to a concert , the computer or sequencer is of central importance for controlling various devices ( synthesizer , drum computer ) and not the performance on hand-played instruments. Live acts are usually performed by individuals or by a duo.

In terms of the instruments used , a fundamental distinction is made between software- based working methods with virtual instruments on the laptop and hardware on the other.

The “live” element in an electronic context focuses primarily on modulating individual sounds (on the synthesizer or on effects units ) and changing the programmed arrangement by setting loops , fading in and out individual tracks on the mixer and merging programmed ones Elements. The approach here is very individual and allows a far greater influence on the music than it does e.g. B. has a DJ .

A DJ plays sound carriers (vinyls, CDs, MP3) from other producers / artists and skilfully mixes them together in his DJ set. In contrast, in a live act, almost exclusively compositions and live remixes by the performing artists are played, mixed together and changed almost at will.
