Tanith (bourgeois Thomas Andrezak ; born August 4, 1962 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a German DJ and producer in the field of electronic dance music .

Life

Thomas Andrezak was born in Bad Kreuznach in 1962 as the son of a teacher couple. He grew up with his younger brother in Wörrstadt in Rhineland-Palatinate . As a teenager he turned to the punk scene in Mainz and Wiesbaden . In 1987 he moved from Wiesbaden, where he still operated under the name Amok, to Berlin , where he was early active in the acid house scene. He was already resident DJ in the first acid house club in Berlin, the UFO . In January 1990 he organized his own club evening, Cyberspace, at Ufo 2 . Through this Wednesday club and as resident DJ of the Tekknozid parties, Tanith was the first Tekkno DJ and is considered one of the founders of the new techno culture in Germany.

From 1990 he wrote for the trendy magazine Frontpage and founded the label Bash Records together with its publisher Jürgen Laarmann . In the Exit in the large restaurant Ahornblatt he organized regular after-hours events after the after-hour club Walfisch closed its doors on Köpenicker Straße in Berlin. Tanith was previously resident DJ there. When the vault opened in March 1991, he became a resident there.

Between 1990 and 1996 he was considered one of the most popular German techno DJs. He was headlining almost every big rave ( Mayday or Nature One , Tribal Gathering , etc.). In 1992 he devoted himself to breakbeat very early on .

Its camouflage look was a trademark in the 1990s. His appearance at the Love Parade in 1994 caused a sensation , when he drove up on his Love Mobile with a decommissioned Russian tank .

In the following year he distanced himself from the Mayday raves and Low Spirit , as he was dissatisfied with the way in which he was presented as a Mayday artist. He started his last set with the prologue from "House of Lies" by the Einstürzende Neubauten .

In 1997 Tanith founded the breakbeat label Timing Recordings and released the albums TANITH and Still there .

In September 2009 Tanith played on the large demonstration Freedom Instead of Fear on the car of the Pirate Party Germany , as well as at the final rally.

He has lived in Berlin-Karow with his family since 2013 .
