After hours

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the club scene, after-hours are an event with electronic dance music that usually begins on Saturday or Sunday in the early hours of the morning. After hours is a German version of the English term after hours , which means something like after the shop has closed or after the office has closed (literally after hours ). The term after-hours , however, is unknown in English ( pseudo-Anglicism ).

After-hour events are attended to end a party-packed weekend or to postpone the end of a night. Often there is a common chill-out between the nightly activity and the after-hours for physical regeneration and refreshment. Occasionally, after-hours events are also attended after a night's sleep. In order to eliminate symptoms of fatigue, drugs such as amphetamines , ecstasy or ketamine are often consumed or cannabis is smoked on an after-hour in order to reduce the undesirable lasting effects of the stimulating drugs.

After hours are characterized by a special exuberance, more frequent physical closeness and more intensive communication than at other techno events. Due to the increased physical stress of most of the guests during the previous night, less emphasis is placed on outfit and appearance. Since the parties usually take place during the day in darkened techno clubs after a long night and sometimes last until the following night, the visitors' sense of time is often impaired.

An after-after-hour event is an event that is linked to the after-hour and usually begins in the early evening. As a counterpart to the after-hour there is the so-called warm-up to get in the mood for the weekend.

history

The first after-hour clubs emerged in the techno scene in the early 1990s and established themselves primarily in Europe and the USA .

One of the pioneers is the Argentinian DJ Alfredo, who was resident DJ at Amnesia in Ibiza at the end of the 1980s and played a key role in shaping the so-called Balearic Beat with his electric mix. Since he had to wait for his fee almost every morning, at some point he began to keep putting on records. The crowd of dancers was small at first, but word got around on the island in a very short time that the party could continue here, so that the number of visitors increased daily. Shortly afterwards, the guests of the former fancy club Privileg came to Amnesia to dance on in the morning .

The Whale in Berlin is considered to be the first German after-hour club in the rooms of today's Sage Club . The most famous after-hours facilities include the Space on Ibiza and the Technoclub in Frankfurt , which originally opened on Sundays at 3 p.m. and primarily served as an after-after-hour event for guests from the Dorian Gray .

In 1993 Tanith organized after-hours at Exit in Berlin, a club in the so-called Ahornblatt on the Spree island , and thus shaped the after-hour culture to this day. In 1995, together with Ellen Allien , he designed the Sunday after-hour club The Rest in the Tresor .

In Berlin, where after-hour culture was always given great importance, a party mile developed around Mühlenstraße along the banks of the Spree during the 2000s and in the adjacent districts of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg , which attracts tens of thousands of rave tourists from Europe every weekend. Due to the regular operation of many techno clubs, including on weekdays, the classic after-hour event became increasingly less important.
