Ellen Allien (* 1968 as Ellen Fraatz ) is a Berlin techno - and Electro - DJ , music producer , organizer and label owner of BPitch Control .

Life

After a discontinued training and a never-ending degree in fashion design, Fraatz first came into contact with electronic music during a one-year stay in London during the Second Summer of Love in 1988 . When she returned to Germany, the “techno wave” began there and a little later the wall fell .

She moved to the eastern part of the city and from 1991 worked as a bartender in the Berlin fish laboratory and began to be interested in the work of DJs. Under the name Ellen Allien she became resident DJ there and a year later played in the Berlin clubs Bunker , Tresor and E-Werk . In 1993 she had her own show on the radio station Kiss FM and in 1995 she founded her own record label called Braincandy . From 1994 to 1995 she played the Sunday after- hour event Club the Rest with Tanith in the Globus des Tresor . She gave up the Braincandy label after the E-Werk closed in 1997 to continue running it in 1999 under the name BPitch Control Records .

The first release on BPitch Control took place with the album Stadtkind in 2001. Music by Sascha Funke , Paul Kalkbrenner and Toktok made this label known all over the world.

In 2007, Allien became the first woman to mix for the Fabric series. A year later the album Sool was released on their label Bpitch Control . In 2009 she mixed the Watergate Vol.5 compilation for Watergate Records and started working on her new album Dust , which was released on May 21, 2010.

She then worked on the music for the dance performance Drama Per Musica , which premiered in Paris in March 2011 under the direction of Alexandre Roccoli and Sevérine Rième . The accompanying album "LISm" was released in 2013 and, like their DJ sets, combined different musical styles. The successor "Nost" relied on variety within the electronic spectrum. Thus Allien returned to her technoid underground roots and remained true to her dance floor principles for three decades.

In 2019 Ellen Allien founded her new label UFO Inc. and celebrates this with the release of her own EP Ufo .
