Mauerstrasse power station

In March 1886, the second Berlin power plant went into operation on the property at Mauerstraße 80. It was built by Städtische Elektricitäts-Werke AG , which later became Bewag , which built the Markgrafenstrasse Central Station as early as 1884 . The second power plant was necessary to cover the increasing demand for electricity and, among other things, supplied the new electrical lighting system in the course of the Unter den Linden boulevard , which was equipped with the arc lamp candelabra designed by Ludwig Schupmann . The distribution networks of the two central stations were connected to one another in 1888.
