history

The siblings Isa and Sophia Poppensieker founded the band Tonbandgerät as schoolgirls in 2007 together with Ole Specht . In 2010 Jakob Sudau joined us as a drummer , who went to school with the sisters.

After first appearances, tape recorder played his first appearance outside of Hamburg in 2008 at the Singer-Songwriter Festival in Stuttgart a . a. with the then still quite unknown bosses and Philipp Poisel .

Further appearances and the production of the first EP You call it Tetris, I call it everyday life followed. In late 2011 the band signed a record deal with the major label Universal .

The tape recorder won the New Music Award in September 2012 , a music prize awarded by ARD radio programs. a. the bands Kraftklub and Bonaparte had already won. In October 2013 the tape recorder also won the HANS - The Hamburg Music Prize as the best Hamburg youngster of the year .

On September 28, 2012 the band released their first single with Irgendwie anders , the debut album Today is Forever followed in April 2013 and entered the German album charts at number 31.

On the initiative of the Goethe Institute , the band made a tour of ten concerts in schools in the USA in order to arouse interest in German as a foreign language among American schoolchildren .

When they took part in the Bundesvision Song Contest 2014 on September 20, 2014, the band received 87 points for the song Alles goes , thus taking fifth place.

On May 1, 2015, their second album, Wenn das Feuerwerk Landet, was released and entered the charts at number 11.

Marcel Rainer has been accompanying the band as the second live guitarist since April 2015.

In March 2016, tape recorder accompanied Karolin Besler, a candidate for the TV show Dein Song , as a music sponsor. Ole Specht has been on the jury for the TV show since 2017.

On September 7, 2018, the third album, "Zwischen all dem Lärm", was released by Columbia (Sony) and entered the charts at number 33. The first single Reisegruppe Angst und Bange , released in May 2018, was a feature with Jan Windmeier, the singer of Turbostaat . The music video for the single Beckenrand was shot in Athens.

In addition to music, tape recorder is often also socially involved. In 2015, for example, they donated the proceeds of their concert at Grosse Freiheit 36 ​​in Hamburg to Pro Asyl, or they took a position in their song "Lange her", which they recorded in 2017 for the federal election for the democracy project Demotapes. In October 2018 they played at the large demonstration to preserve the Hambach Forest.
