Vera Bendel

Vera Bendel is a German bodybuilder and entrepreneur . She was the first German female bodybuilding champion. She was also the first German female bodybuilder to do the sport as a professional.

Life

Vera Bendel studied sport and Russian for teaching up to the first state examination. In November 1979, she and her husband Willi Bendel opened their gym in Hanau-Steinheim . Ralf Moeller and Kurt Felix also trained there . In spring 2012, Willi Bendel announced the sale of the studio for reasons of age.

In 1981 she won the first German bodybuilding championship for women in Hanover against 35 competitors, a year later she won the title again in Munich . In 1983 she won second place at the IFBB European Championship . In 1981 she was the first German to take part in the international Miss Olympia competition. In 1985 Bendel took third place in the professional class at the IFBB World Championship. She took part in this competition until 1989. She won the title with her husband Willi Bendel at championships in couple posing, first organized by Harry Gelbfarb in 1981.
