Radio 4U was briefly the SFB's youth radio .

It went on air on April 30, 1990 on the Berlin frequency 98.2 MHz from SFB 4 . It was the expansion of the evening music series of SF-Beat at SFB 2 to an independent program.

In the middle of 1992 the ORB and SFB planned a joint youth wave to reduce costs; This joint program should consist of a merger of Radio 4U and the ORB Youth Wave Rock Radio B exist.

The ORB and SFB could not initially agree which broadcaster should produce this new youth station. Nevertheless, Radio 4U was already discontinued on December 31, 1992, because the SFB needed the funds for the imminent creation of a Berlin television (B1) on January 1, 1993.

On March 1, 1993, Fritz , the planned youth station of SFB and ORB, went on air, initially from the former GDR broadcasting studios on Nalepastrasse in Berlin, before moving to the new broadcasting house in Potsdam-Babelsberg at the end of 1993.

Due to the uncertain situation of the station in 1992, many employees from Radio 4U had already switched to Rockradio B. These were then taken over by Fritz.
