Stella Maessen (born August 6, 1953 in Zandvoort , Netherlands ), known as Stella , is a Dutch- Belgian singer who participated several times as a band member or background singer in the Eurovision Song Contest and solo in the music competition in 1982 .

biography

Hearts of Soul singer

In 1969, the then fifteen year old founded the group Hearts of Soul with her sisters Bianca and Patricia, which took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in Amsterdam in 1970 and existed until 1972.

Relocation to Belgium and creation of Dream Express

In 1973 the three sisters moved to Belgium. There Maessen began to work as a background singer for Sharif Dean, among other things, she participated in the number one hit Do You Love Me . In 1975 the former Hearts of Soul decided to sing together again. Together with Bianca's husband Luc Smets they founded the group Dream Express, which was successful in the Flemish sales charts and participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1977 in London . After the resignation of the singer Patricia and the renaming to "LBS", the group separated in 1981.

Solo career

In 1981 Maessen took part again, this time solo, with the song Veel te veel (Eng. "Much too much") in the Belgian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest, which was organized by the Flemish TV station BRT under the title Eurosong 1981 . She was able to qualify from the semi-finals for the final, which was won by Emly Starr . Their placement was not disclosed. The following year, she again took part in the preliminary round, this time organized by the Walloon broadcaster RTBF . With Si tu aimes ma musique she was able to qualify from the original 18 participants via the quarter and semi-finals for the final, in which four singers took part. She won the final. At the Eurovision Song Contest 1982 in Harrogate she reached fourth place and received points from all other 17 participating countries. She released other singles in English. In 1986 she was a background singer for Sandra Kim at the Eurovision Song Contest when she won the competition. She was also a background singer for Plastic Bertrand at the Eurovision Song Contest 1987 for Luxemburg . In 1988, Flashlight was their last single.
