Plastic Bertrand

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Plastic Bertrand is the stage name of the Belgian new wave musician Roger Jouret (born February 24, 1954 in Brussels ).

Life

Jouret, the son of a French father and a Ukrainian mother, started his career as a drummer for the Belgian punk band Hubble Bubble , which released two singles and two albums, Hubble Bubble (1974) and Faking (1978), on Barclay Records . In 1977 he made a guest appearance under the pseudonym "Nobby Goff" as a drummer with the band Elton Motello and played on the single Jet Boy, Jet Girl b / w Pogo Pogo .

When Jouret teamed up with producer and songwriter Lou Deprijck, a successful duo was born. Deprijck wrote a new French text for Jet Boy, Jet Girl and recorded both songs from the Elton Motello single with Jouret, who was now called Plastic Bertrand.

The song Ça Plane Pour Moi from 1977 is considered a new wave classic. Ça Plane Pour Moi became one of the greatest hits of the 1970s in Europe, America and Asia. However, it has been controversial since at least 2006 whether producer Lou Deprijk or Plastic recorded the song. Benny Schnier brought a version in German under the title Bin again freely on the market; Lou Deprijck, who emigrated to Thailand , sang a Thai version called Mai pen lai . With his hit, Plastic Bertrand appeared twice in the music store in 1978 ; at another appearance he sang the follow-up single Bambino .

Plastic Bertrand released other albums in Europe in which he experimented with the most diverse musical styles, such as disco , bubblegum , rap and reggae , mixed with his typical nonsense singing. In 1987 he started for Luxembourg at the Grand Prix Eurovision , but only finished penultimate in his hometown with the title Amour-Amour . In the following years he hardly appeared in public, but in 2002 he reported back with the album Ultraterrestre .

Cover versions

The first cover version of Ça Plane Pour Moi appeared in 1979 on the first album Looking for St. Tropez by the Belgian synth-pop group Telex .

Die Welt reported that the German group Wir sind Helden used the song Ça Plane Pour Moi as a template for their hit Guten Tag . However, the group itself stated that the song just a rock 'n' roll - Reef on the synthesizers have quoted.

A cover version of Ça Plane Pour Moi appeared on the album Rodeo Radio by the Berlin band The BossHoss in mid-2006 ; With this band, Plastic Bertrand recorded the song again in 2007.

The French band Nouvelle Vague also covered the song on their 2009 album 3 .

Already in 1993 Leila K. Ça Plane sang Pour Moi on her album Carousel . The song was also released as a single.

In 2019 The Hawaiians (Band) released Ça Plane Pour Moi with a modified text under the title She Hates Hawaii on Partysprenger Records.
