Hugues Aufray (* 18th August 1929 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) is a French chanson - singer , the 1964 song contest the Euro Vision in Copenhagen with the song Dès que le printemps revient opened.

Childhood and youth

Pascale Audret's brother spent his childhood and the war years in the south of France and only went to school when he was twelve because he was extremely left-handed and dyslexic . He swapped the numbers and did everything upside down, but as an autodidact he was able to teach himself a lot. He was considered a good narrator and he was interested in music, literature and art. Riding was taken seriously at his school and he was able to win first place in horse shows for five years in a row.

Star in show business

At 35, he realized that his school problems were caused by dyslexia , but by then he was already a star in show business. Knowing that he wanted to be an artist, he enrolled at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris and earned his living as a singer on Place Saint Germain and in the surrounding bars. He became known with his music beyond the borders of France and was soon considered a talented interpreter. His chanson Le rossignol anglais became internationally known through other interpreters.

Use for humanitarian purposes

In 1966 Hugues Aufray met Martin Luther King and stood up for the fight against racism with the song Les crayons de couleurs at a gala concert . Later he sang in kindergartens and at school camps and his songs were received and processed so enthusiastically that they are now part of the standard repertoire of many French people. Many schools in Germany and abroad now bear his name. He gave many concerts for humanitarian causes, supported Father Jaouen in the fight against drugs and organized two large events in the Olympic Stadium in Paris to promote cystic fibrosis . In 1985 he got involved as "singer without borders" with his song Santiano for Ethiopia and brought a Mercedes there himself, which could be donated with his help.

Still on stage at over 80 years of age

In 2004 he was interviewed by the BBC for the European project "The Secret of Lost Letters - Tim helps dyslexic students" and said that the world was now much more tolerant of learning problems than it used to be. He is now a two-time grandfather himself and has returned to equestrian sports. At over 80 he is still on stage.

In Rose Bosch's film " A Summer in Provence ", he plays Elie, an old friend of the grandfather played by Jean Reno.
