Camillo Felgen (actually Camille Jean Nicolas Felgen ) (born November 17, 1920 in Tetingen ( Luxembourgish : Téiteng ); † July 16, 2005 in Esch an der Alzette (Luxembourgish: Esch-Uelzecht )) was a well-known Luxembourg singer , lyricist and radio - and TV presenter .

Life

Felgen started out as a primary school teacher, then was an interpreter for the occupation troops and a reporter for a French-language newspaper in Luxembourg . He studied acting, singing and opera in Brussels and Liège , then in 1946 he was hired by Radio Luxemburg as a choir singer and French-speaking news anchor . In 1949 he completed his acting and opera studies as a baritone. In 1951 he had his first international record success with the title Bonjour les amis . This song became the theme tune on his home station. In 1953 he recorded his first German-language record on Uncle Tom's old boat in Berlin . He then recorded numerous German-speaking singles with various record companies until 1980. In 1960 and 1962 he took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for Luxembourg . In 1960 he was in London with his title Sou laang wéi s du do bass , sung in Luxembourgish , last. In 1962 in Luxembourg he reached third place with his title Petit Bonhomme, sung in French . Some of his best-known songs in German include Tell Why? based on a melody by Phil Spector . The single sold 800,000 times. Another hit was the title I'm in awe of snow-white hair (original by Bobbejaan ).

In 1958 he was appointed the first German-speaking program manager by Radio Luxemburg . He first became known as a radio host. His best-known broadcasts as chief spokesman included the hit parade (from April 6, 1958, until 1968) and The Big Eight (1965–1968). He is considered to be the inventor of the advertising slogan “The happy waves of Radio Luxembourg”. From 1959 on he played a key role in the annual “ Lion ” from Radio Luxembourg, which was awarded gold, silver and bronze a. a. were awarded to many German and international artists of the time as part of a major event in Essen's Grugahalle . In 1968, Camillo Felgen said goodbye to his listeners in order to work freely. His successor as chief spokesman was Frank Elstner .

Camillo Felgen also made a name for himself as a copywriter . Under his only pseudonym Jean Nicolas , he wrote over 2000 songs, including the lyrics to I count my worries for Peter Alexander every day and Beautiful Stranger Man for Connie Francis . He also wrote the German lyrics of their cover versions for the Beatles in 1964, Komm gib mich dein Hand ( I Want to Hold Your Hand ) and She Loves You ( She Loves You ) .

From 1965 to 1973 he took over the management of the television program Spiel ohne Grenzen for Westdeutscher Rundfunk , which he hosted 125 times. From 1984 to 1987 he was with RTL plus as moderator (be Anything in, Da-da-then) operates. Later he ran boutiques for ball and wedding dresses in Luxembourg and Esch / Alzette with his wife .
