I am in awe of snow-white hair is a song that was written and composed by Bobbejaan Schoepen in 1959 .

The original version of Schoepen was a number one hit in Belgium at the time . The song has also been brought out successfully by other artists many times. In the summer of 1963 the song was in second place in the Dutch top 40; A total of 350,000 copies were sold in the version by Gert Timmerman , who received a gold record for this, and a platinum record from the hands of Louis Armstrong .

German versions, including by Camillo Felgen (1963) and Heino (1971), were international hits in the 1970s. Including the instrumental version by James Last , more than three million copies have been sold.

On December 3, 2009, the original version of “I'm in awe of snow-white hair” by Bobbejaan Schoepen was included in Radio 2's gallery of heroes.

Trivia

  • The first line, "Ich habfurcht" ( sung by Gert Timmerman), was used by Osdorp Posse in 2003 for the song "Eerbied" from their album "Tegenstrijd" (2003).
